Angel Food Ministries Review II
Today was pick up day for Angel Food Ministries. I showed up early, 7AM, and helped with unloading the truck. There was a nice group of people dedicated to making sure things went smoothly.
After the truck was unloaded, a few churches had their food pulled first. They had very large orders and it was good to get them finished and on their way to those who had ordered them.
I brought along a medium size cooler with wheels and I am glad I did. They had a good system where you walk down a line of tables where each item was ready to be placed into our cooler. Everything fit, including my special 11 pound chicken breast box.
The staff then did a quick count to be sure we had all of our 16 items and our specials. We were on our way home minutes after that.
Keeping the food cold is an issue for once the food is off the truck they do not have refrigeration before you pick up your food. I would recommend everyone show up at 8 to 8:30am with a cooler to be sure to get the frozen goods into it ASAP.
My general feeling is that all the people involved at the local level seem quite conscientious. The whole process went smoothly. I feel the value of this program is positive.
A more detailed review of the value this service provides will be left until I have eaten some of the foods. That will be part 3 of the series on Angel Food Ministries. I will try to have a good comparison of the food purchased to an area store based on price. I will also review the general quality of the food provided.
